Thanks to artist Avril Arthur for kindly donating 25% of profit on the sale of her original artwork and prints to Emmaus Glasgow.
Painting (No.4) by Avril Arthur is a large-scale acrylic on canvas (100cm x 150cm). The work is inspired by abstract expressionists such as Jackson Pollock and Gerhart Richter, however the fluid and colourful gesturing is Avril’s own unique language. The piece is visceral, lyrical and poetic, offering a tactile impasto surface form and yet, beyond the surface, in spaces between, the visual language speaks of the formless infinite.
Avril created the artwork in meditation to music. During meditation a particular issue arose in her mind that influenced her colour choices and so the piece holds specific meaning to her, however Avril does not wish to be prescriptive in the work’s meaning but would rather come to understand and create dialogue on how this piece impacts upon the thoughts and feelings of others.
