Why use Emmaus?

No one likes to think of once treasured possessions going to landfill.

We may not be able to use items that are past their useful life, or soft furnishings that don’t carry fire labels, but our companions (formerly homeless men and women) will recondition and refurbish wherever we can so that we can sell on as many of the items we collect as possible through our three retail outlets. This enables us to quote you a price which is in line with, or lower than, the national average – and gives you a greener alternative to taking furniture to the tip.

All the profits that we make will be used to provide the companions with a home, training and ongoing support to rebuild their lives. Click here for first-hand accounts of the difference your donation can make.

As well as selling donated items, part of the Emmaus ethos is “Solidarity” – helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

About Us

Emmaus Glasgow - the homeless charity that works. We believe that people who are homeless and socially excluded have something to offer. We encourage people to use their skills to change themselves and change the world.

Emmaus Glasgow is a registered Scottish charity and the first Emmaus community in Scotland. Established in 2006, our community and three charity shops in Glasgow, provide a self-sufficient living and work-space for 27 companions who are affected by homelessness.

Our Glasgow-based charity shops provide low-cost, recycled second-hand furniture, white goods, bric-a-brac, clothing and more throughout the local community.
